Significant program cuts for the year and the lingering absence of a solidified collective bargaining agreement with Canada Soccer, the sport’s governing body.

The players, led by veteran captain Christine Sinclair, expressed concerns about these cuts impacting their preparation for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled for July-August 2023.

These cuts reportedly included reduced training camp days, fewer staff members, and limitations on the number of players invited to camps.

For the Reggae Girlz, the road to the World Cup has been paved with frustration.  The team has consistently battled issues related to inadequate training facilities, subpar accommodations,

And insufficient nutritional support.  These shortcomings have significantly impacted their preparation for the global tournament.

Adding insult to injury, the players have even faced challenges regarding compensation. Disheartened by the lack of financial backing from the Jamaican Football Federation (JFF), they were forced to take matters into their own hands. 

In a remarkable display of resilience, the team, along with Khadija Shaw’s mother, launched a crowdfunding campaign aptly named “Reggae Girlz Rise Up.” 

This grassroots initiative aimed to raise funds and bridge the gap created by the JFF’s shortcomings. Despite these hurdles, the fighting spirit of the Reggae Girlz remains unbroken.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, brimming with talent and aiming to make a mark at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, found themselves embroiled in a pre-tournament controversy that threatened to derail their momentum.

Zambia manager Bruce Mwape has faced serious allegations of sexual assault ahead of the team’s first-ever appearance at a World Cup.

France 

Controversial manager Corinne Diacre was sacked in March after three players, including captain Wendie Renard, went on strike and said they would not play at the World Cup if she continued in her position.
